Want To Be A Dot Com Mogul?

March 11th, 2007 at 11:11 pm by azwan. Filed under Reviews.

Maybe I am one of those Dot Com Mogul wannabes. Who doesn’t and there are a lot of people out there who wants to be one. If you are a regular at the wangcyber.com forum, there are hundreds of Malaysian who wants to be an internet marketeer, internet entrepreneur or usahawan internet as they say in malay. 1/3 of Malaysian are already connected and many have realized the internet potential for making money. However, it is not easy to be one. John Chow listed 7 criteria to be considered as one :

#1 Your income is from the internet
#2 The minimum Internet income is $10,000 per month (you can not add income from other sources to hit this $10K level)
#3 You have no jobs outside of the Internet
#4 You have a personal blog with your name as the domain name
#5 Your blog must be updated at least once per week
#6 A Google search of your name must be at the #1 spot
#7 You must be willing to help dot com mogul wannabes

Well, i think he missed one. He should add ‘You must have a hot partner’.That would spice things up. Who else do you want to spend all those money with. Not a dumb blonde I hope. However, ‘hot’ should be defined by the Mogul himself (or herself) as beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder :) I’ve been visiting his blog quite often lately and I find him as a guy who likes to help, even though he is already making a lot of money. His page view is about 300,000/month compared to my old blog which is only 1.5% of that. Don’t talk about this blog yet. I would be delighted if this blog hit 100 hits in the first month. Maybe he can help me get more traffic by giving me a free linkback.

As for me, from the 7 listed, I only met #5. This is my personal blog and my name is the domain name. As for #6, only time will tell. At this moment a Google search for my name will take you to my sister’s blog. Just give some time for a search on‘azwan hadzree’ to hit #1 but for the rest of the criteria, mmmm. I need a plan!

Hi Azwan, got here from John Chow’s site. Good article. I think I might write one up too.

If you notice, my blog is on Blogger but I’d like to have my own domain. Do you have any reliable and not too-expensive webhosting outfit to recommend? What about the one you are using. Is it any good? Would appreciate a response. Need help here. Thanks so much. Best wishes, Happysurfer

People said Namsahaz gave a good service.. NetKL is good too.. I am using NetKL.. but I think for a startup SempoiHosting gave the affordable solution.. because you can have a domain and your own hosting for as low as RM44, if I am not mistaken.. you can custom-made the size of harddisk you need. But certainly, compared to NetKL, netKL is cheaper for the hostng, only that they have the standard plan. The cheapest hosting is RM60 (including the domain)

Cikgu Azleen, thanks for the tip. I hv actually contacted all 3 before deciding on NetKL. SempoiHosting is cheap if you r only having a one page site. I chose NetKL because of the response/feeback. Fast and they don’t mind to get back to you eventhough during weekends.

If you’re hitting #2, who cares about #4, #5 or #6, right? I figure if your intention is to make money and you’re making a good deal of it, who cares if someone else thinks you’re a “mogul”? Just a thought…
