Alexa Traffic Ranking
May 17th, 2007 at 9:00 am by azwan. Filed under Traffic.Alexa traffic rank is a bit different from Google Page Rank where the higher the Page Rank the better while, with Alexa you are better with a lower one. Confused? Good .. ha..ha. What is Alexa Traffic Rank? According to Alexa :
The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis. The main Alexa traffic rank is based on the geometric mean of these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users). The three-month change is determined by comparing the site’s current rank with its rank from three months ago. For example, on July 1, the three-month change would show the difference between the rank based on traffic during the first quarter of the year and the rank based on traffic during the second quarter.
If you are doing paid reviews from SponsoredReviews you should notice that Alexa Ranking is one of the criteria to determine the suggested price for your review. If you want to increase you Alexa Ranking, the 2 ways I am using currently is by joining Alexa Train like the one I did in my last post and also by putting the rank widget on my blog. Putting a rank widget is easy. Just follow this link and the steps below :
- When you are at that site, key in your blog URL as required.
- Select a widget that suits your blog
- Copy the code and paste it to your blog
- Done
After two days, my Alexa rank improved, from 703K to 693K, will see what happen at the end of the month. There are a few more ways that you can try. DoshDosh has listed 20 quick ways to increase your Alexa rank.
My Alexa rank still the bottom..below 1,000,000 huh..i wish with these i can improve my alexa rank..

when i first started my blog its fun to see my alexa traffic rank from 1mil drop to 300k..it’s like wow!..but now fun time is over
gotta maintain the ranking is the hardest part..rite now im lingering at 260k+

Well I have learned a lot from posts like these. Im not as fortunate to have an 18,000 page ranking like some folks. I can however testify to seeing an excellent improvement in my page ranking (about 27%!) after doing the following 4 things…
1)Using this site, which is free, that sends thousands of people to my sites everyday
2)Getting the firefox extension (alternative to the alexa toolbar)
3)Adding the alexa widget to my site.
4)Using the following URL whenever possible
“http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.xxxxxxxxxxx.com”
just replace the x’s with your sites’ url.
I highly recommend doing all 4!
Thanks again for this post! (i do have to say though that the widget only seems to record somewhere in the neighborhood of 15% of actual traffic). Using the redirect through alexa will count a lot of the hits to your site that the widget misses. It only counts a hit once per 24hrs per IP address however.
