Perodua Viva

If you have read my earlier article on Perodua Myvi SE, I said that Proton will bleed further if Perodua launch a new model this year. Well, Perodua did launch Viva and based on the numbers of people at Peroduas’ showrooms in Kuala Lumpur, Prai and Sungai Petani, I think it is going to gain more market share at Proton’s expense. Proton made a mistake by hanging to Wira for so long. Proton did introduce newer models but the pricing are not competitive. Why buy a Proton quality Waja, Gen2, or even Neo when you can afford a Toyota Vios or even a Honda City?
I visited a Perodua showroom last Sunday and from the look of it, people are going to accept Viva. However I like to point out something that will discourage people from owning a Viva especially the lower end ones. Most of the accessories like electrical side mirror (retractable), power windows, reverse sensor, ABS and SRS airbags are only available on the 1000cc and some are only for the premium version. Although it has a line up of exciting new colors, offers CD player and 4 speakers, but the the 660cc and 850cc have no power steering. If you are planning to buy Viva, please take note of this.
[Updated 22 July 2007] These pictures are of the 660cc Passion Red. As you can see the engine is quite compact, that’s where the space comes from. Viva interior length is longer than Myvi. It’s a Twincam 12V DVVT engine. Viva is very comfortable and you will not feel like driving a small car. For a person who is 1.72cm tall and weights 93KG, I find it comfortable when compared to a Kancil.
Up close and personal with our Perodua Viva
According to Perodua, it has stopped production of its Kelisa model since December 2006 and the Kancil will follow suit in a year … oh .. by the way, some people like to blog about cars they can’t afford. When I blog about cars, it’s either about racing like Formula 1 or the ones I can afford
Anyway, if you are still thinking whether to get a Viva or the old Kancil. Get a Viva. It’s much better in term of space and handling, even though you will get additional discount for buying that Kancil. In terms of fuel consumption or fuel efficiency, check out the table below for Viva’s fuel consumption. If you only care about getting from point A to point B in the cheapest way possible, this is the car.

For a complete review on Perodua Viva, check out Paultan and Motortrader. For those who are interested. The 660cc Passion Red as shown above is only RM28,800.00 (exclude the bumper paint job
). The most expensive one, the Premium version, is priced at RM44,200.00. I find that too expensive. Better get a Myvi.

But for and entry car it does provide most of the basics and the space. But i prefer Myvi myself. I bought my current car because i cant stand waiting for Myvi. I waited for 8 months since launched.

@Ina, saper yang nak bawak, you ke husband. That’s it how we usually decide
@Fahmishah, I agree with you. I pun nampak ia macam advanza masa tengok dari tepi masa launch kat NTV7 dulu.

It looks a lot like Myvi, I guess.. But the CC is too small? maybe suitable for city traveller, but not for me..

@Cikgu Azleen
I think it’s actually suitable for lower class income people who are looking for an affordable, good looking car. I saw a few on the road yesterday on my way back from Prai. It looks so small… but still, better looking than a kancil
@Kucau, ha..ha.. so what car are you planning to buy.

anyway, if you are planning to buy, test drive it first, sebab, dia macam avanza jugak … a bit bumpy

savvy????
kereta cam penyu…… tapi minyak jimat…. org ckp.. savvy akan jadi kereta TIARA… beli, pas tue nk jual x laku..

ha..ha.. itu cakap orang. tapi kalau dah test drive, mungkin terpikat. Macam Viva ni jugak, memang murah, lawa, spacious dan sebagainya lah .. tapi handling dia tak sebagus kereta-kereta proton. beli pun sebab untuk orang tua di kampung. kalau untuk kegunaan sendiri , mungkin fikir 2 3 kali.
apa-apa pun, bergantung kepada pilihan masing-masing kan
penyu pun masuk filem tau … teenage mutant ninja turtle …ahaks

biasa lah, kereta murah. lagipun, kereta mana takde defect. just that kita akan terlebih-lebih pulak bila berbicara mengenai barangan buatan malaysia.
so far (pak mertua yang pakai ni) takde komplen. servis murah, minyak jimat. tapi biasalah, the one we bought is 660cc, mana ada power lepas berhenti di traffic light. window is hand powered and takde power steering.
kalau office dekat dgn rumah, worth to buy .. tapi, to tell you the truth, for the same price … i prefer proton saga yang baru tu. kalau dia kelaur lebih awal, bye - bye viva

Aku rasa harganya terlalu mahal, x padan dengan size & CC. X berbaloi sangat lah untuk beli viva ni. yang 660 cc harganya nampak berpatutan sikit, tapi under power pulak. Aku pun pelik campur hairan lah kenapa masih nak keluarkan yang 660 & 850 cc, padahal dah tau under power, nak pandu x sedap. Mungkin dah jadi mentaliti orang melayu dan syarikat pengusaha kederaan bumiputra/melayu kot!. CUBA fikir-fikir lah wahai! Proton & Perodua.

peroduas’ cars are mostly very expensive. nak katakan berkualiti lebih dr proton, tak jugak. anyway, perodua is giving us the small cc cars while proton is more on the mid range. u got a choice, so … buatlah berdasarakan kemampuan
kalau ada lebih, angkat la honda accord yang baru keluar tu
