Happenings # 01

So what’s happening around azwanhadzree dot com.

Work
Work has been a bit busy lately. Need to complete a process document for Manufacturing Execution for the project I’m in. Presented it last week but project office requested to add additional items. It’s 95% finish, just 1 flow chart is not in yet. Hope to complete it tomorrow. Another one, RICEF, is already overdue, partly my fault for not following up closely and partly the key user, who is always late in replying. Expected this to be completed tomorrow as well. Anyway, life back home is as usual. I always forget office when at home.

Transformers
Saw it for the 2nd time on Saturday, this time with the kids. Usually I would take them to One Utama but failed to book the ticket even though my wife called on Thursday. Hariz enjoyed it but Nurin fell asleep towards the end of the show.

Fixed some CSS issues.
Nothing major but it’s annoying. If you noticed, I got problems when putting smileys between text. It’s awkward when smileys have border around it. Now it is fixed. See :) , and :D . Thanks to Bat and Flisterz for their help. Bat is currently posting a series of posts about Transcending CSS. It’s in Malay. Flisterz on the other hand is getting personal with his what’s up post. Flisterz, C++ is easy to learn but a little bit difficult to master. But if you are already familiar with programming, it wouldn’t be hard to follow :) (See another smiley that fits nicely)

Wordpress
Added a few plugins. The main one would be the adsense plugins. Decided to monetized my blog :D . The rest includes :

  • Google Sitemap : This is for Google. It will create a Google compliant sitemap of this blog and will also ping Google at the same time.
  • Popularity Contest : This will rank my post based on popularity. It will let you which post people visits or comments the most. It’s the one on the bottom right.
  • Subscribe To Comments : This is for you who left a comment and would like my blog to send you a message once someone reply or add a new comment. Or when I replied to your comment.
  • Brian’s Threaded Comments : Let see, I actually forgot why I put this .. wakaka..ka.ka.. Why not you tell me what ’s it for :)

Wordpress Upgrade
I will not do any more post on Wordpress Upgrade. The last time I mentioned that I haven’t upgrade to 2.2.1 (now this site is already 2.2.1) a crazy doctor threaten me with the SQL injection problem. Ha.. ha.. anyway, he promised me a pack of Viagra if I ever need one.

That’s about it I think.

agree with you (this statement should be published 5 years ago).. but I’ve left the engineering and programming world for almost 4 years now.. I think if you show me any code, I would say, “apakejadahnyer ni?”.. :-p

leLabu reply on July 9, 2007 1:10 pm:

I wish I can go back to my college years, when I was a good coder (compared to my friends in same class), especially when it came to VHDL…

But reality is, in real world, you only applied a few percents of what you’ve learn in college? Am I right? sorry.. getting out of topic.

azwan reply on July 9, 2007 1:21 pm:

VHDL - “apakejadahnyer ni?” (what the hell is this! loosely translated from Malay to English) ha.. ha..

In my case, for the IT part, applied most of it. Structured programming, data structures, RDBMS, UNIX and even C++ (at the beginning) :)

leLabu reply on July 9, 2007 1:32 pm:

    VHDL - V*(I forgot already), H-Hardware, D-Definition, L- Language

hardware programming for defining function of chips (Integrated circuits etc). which then be the basis for circuit layout (semiconductor) in wafer. everyone might be lost when I describe, except one with electronic engineering majoring in IC design. enuff said.

Once you understand C++ I don’t think you’ll any problem understanding any other programming language. ha..ha.. from the person who knows C but had difficulty with stylesheet. ha..ha.. No, it was just the time that I don’t have to godek2.

I was half way updating this post when you commented. I made a mistake earlier when I accidentally pressed the publish button. Anyway, since I’m half way, just left it as it is.

Thanks for dropping by Ikram Zidane. Actually I have visited your site a few times, but you don’t update that often do you.

I have to admit that I really envy your skills. Your designs are great.

c++ is easy to learn, the basic…. but once start dealing with memory leaking, then brain start to crack…

i like subscribe plug in, everyone should install it.

I like it too. It’ll tell me when the author has replied to my comments/questions :) (more smiley)

And by the way, if anyone of you is watching or has watched Transformers. That great song is from Linkin Park. Someone asked, so I replied here.

I agreed with you, shutterspeaks. C++ is easy when you are not taking about its object-oriented, pointers, memory allocations and etc. Plus without the help of Visual coding like MFC and Delphi components, things will be really messy.

Programming is easier nowadays. It is much easier to check for problems and identify bugs but still experience plays a role here.

the problem my site is..i try to chance my permalinks from default to date and name base..but once i chance it my worldpress asking me to update my ..htaccess file..but this file not already exist on my server..anyone can help me on this..?

    [Reply]

  10. on 10 Jul 2007 at 12:05 pm leLabu

change your blog directory permission to 777 and then change the permalink options by clicking “update peralink structure” (wordpress won’t ask you to update the .htaccess file).

then change back your blog directory permission to it’s original setting (755).

    Bent

.htaccess file should be either in /public_html/ or /public_html/blog/ depending on how you set up you blog. If you don’t have that file, create one.

If it’s there, change the .htaccess file access to 644, then try again. This way, you don’t need to do as Lelabu advised.

I think you are a member of smartzul forum right? Log in and refer to
Support & Aduan - Masalah Teknikal Blog - Gagal Bina Contact Form it has the details on how to change the file access or how to recreate the .htaccess file

    Hope this help.

and i’m very agree when you say programming is easy now…there so many reference if we are truly and deeply want to study it….
my experience…focus and concentrate is the step to start a new thing…
from science student, I was change to someone who very crazy about computer, PHP and programming…

If all the above methods fail, you should check your hosting server as well. ‘MOD REWRITE’ only supported by PHP on Apache not PHP on ISS.

Anyway if .htaccess file doesn’t exist, create one and copy and paste the code below.
remember to change ‘your blog directory’ to your actual blog directory. Hope this help!

    # BEGIN WordPress

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /your blog directory/
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /your blog directory/index.php [L]

    # END WordPress

    what’s the problem?

mine was solved by go to Option > Threaded Coments and set Custom Comments Target to wp-comments-post.php. That’s all!

(silly mistake, right? that’s why I didn’t want to tell ya..) :-)

You’re using wordpress wat! No? U have the .com thing. You have ads on your blog. You plan to write sponsored post. And you even altered your blog.

Normal non-paying wordpress users can’t do all those things. Right?

azwan reply on July 15, 2007 10:59 am:

u r still not clear, arent’ you. I have a short post on this this week. anyway, i summarized it for you :

    1) this is a wordpress blog however it’s not related to wordpress.com

    2) find a hosting company
    3) registered with them and choose a domain name i.e the dot com thing
    4) now with the server space i have, i installed wordpress to it
    5) tweak my wordpress blog, add in plugins, new theme etc
    6) start blogging

I’m enjoying your blog. I like the setup. By the way, transformers was better than I thought it would be. I was eager to see it but enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
