Petrol Price Hike : Did You Manage To Fill Up Last Night?

5 June 2008 34 Comments

These are the pictures I took yesterday while waiting to fill up my tank. Have to wait for about 30 mins. The jam was not that bad, there are 3 petrol stations that are very near to each other, I think the furthers is about 200 meters away.

So, did you manage to fill up last night?

78 sen is big amount. It’s about 41% more than the current price. My monthly petrol budget is already RM700++. Plus 41% to it will mean that, starting today I will have to increase my budget for petrol close to RM1K per month.

For the time being I am not affected by the petrol price hike if my company adjust my travel allowance and mileage claim accordingly. It will be a big problem if they don’t :( . As most of you know, I travel a lot. I was in Shah Alam last week, then in Ipoh earlier this week and today I’m in Prai. While the project is still on, I think I’ll be OK but once the project is over, I will be swearing at the petrol pump like the rest of you every time I fill up.

So what can we do?
We can blog about the ******* government all week (again, replace the * with your own word). We can put graphs, charts and anything about the pay and cost of living in Malaysia, and then compare them with other countries. I’m sure the will be a lot of bloggers that will do this (while swearing), but since it’s beyond our control. We can’t do much, actually. The election will also not be so soon :P .

Maybe it’s time to follow their advise that’s to change our lifestyle. Sakit hati je nak sebut benda ni, tapi nak buat macam mana kan?

It’s easier said than done, but we have to start somewhere. When I started on managing my own money, I learned that … in order to to be in control, we must take control. We must make money to work for us instead of working for money. We must know how much we make, how much we spend and where is the money going. It’s not easy. Even after 6 years I still have a lot to learn, but currently I think I’m doing quite well.

The Secret
Get yourself a financial software like Microsoft Money. If you think Microsoft Money is too expensive, then get Ace Money Lite. It’s a freeware. Bent blogged about this before, check out his post and start tracking your daily expenses. Understand your spending first before even thinking of managing it.

If you think you can’t do that, the easiest way is just spend less than what you make, but how would you know where did your money go when you are not tracking it.

Enough said, more about this later ok :) Happy Petrol Price Hike Day!

Oh, btw .. I took the pictures above with my new camera phone.

Here in the UK the petrol prices are rising and most people seem to oppose this. I on the other hand am a bit controvertial and support the rising prices. I feel the world is far too dependant on their cars and fossil fuels, we need to start changing the way we live and move around.

I know people who will drive 3 miles to work, come home then drive to the gym to run on a treadmill for hours…….am I the only one who sees what is wrong with this picture?
Most offices provide shower facilities, so why not jog to work?
You will save money, the environment and your figure.

the price there is already high. here, it’s very low and as an oil & gas producing country, we should enjoy it cheaper but they keep on comparing us to Singapore & Thailand , the cpuntries that dont produce any

It is possible (and not too difficult) to modify a car engine so it can run on vegetable oil! Much cheaper!!

Would it start queues at restaurants as people seek out used cooking oil?
